Lauren Henderson-Turner began her vocal music studies at the University of Kansas where she studied with Mezzo-Soprano Joyce Castle. While studying at the University of Kansas, Lauren participated in over 20 operas with the KU Opera Theater and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Performances included the roles of Harry Wood in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Sister Mathilde in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites and Millie in the World Premiere of Forest Pierce's Picnic. Lauren studied the German language in Eutin, Germany as well as the Italian language in Florence, Italy, respectively. Lauren Henderson-Turner received the 'Outstanding Senior in Music' Award and after graduating from the University of Kansas Lauren began her Graduate Studies at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
Ms. Henderson-Turner attended the prestigious Seagle Music Colony in Schroon Lake, NY where she performed the roles of Arete/Megeara in Mark Adamo's Lysistrata, Mrs. Wintry in the premiere of Stephen Schwartz's first opera SĂ©ance on a Wet Afternoon. In her second summer of attendance, Lauren returned to the Seagle Colony stage as Amy in Stephen Sondheim's Company and Piti-Sing in the Gilbert and Sullivan delight, The Mikado.
After relocating to Omaha, NE with her husband, Ms. Henderson-Turner began performing with the Opera Omaha chorus and in various solo performances with the company. With the growth of her private vocal studio, Lauren's performance emphasis shifted slightly to include an increasing amount of oratorio, sacred music and recital performances. Among those were multiple performances of Liszt's Via Crucis, Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria.
In 2014 Lauren added the comedic role of Katisha in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado to her resume which she performed with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre along with her first of two Encouragement Awards from the Metroplolitan Opera National Council.
The fall of 2016 brought Lauren's first performance of Suor Zelatrice in the Nebraska Opera Project's inaugural performance of Suor Angelica to Omaha, Nebraska.
Ms. Henderson-Turner relocated to the Houston area in 2016 where she is on faculty at The Saint Constantine School and maintains a private voice studio in Sugar Land, TX. Lauren sings with the Houston Grand Opera chorus, is a frequent concert and oratorio soloist in the Greater Houston Area and is currently pursuing a Master of Sacred Music Degree at the University of Saint Thomas under the tutelage of Dr. Brady Knapp.
